CRM 3.0 - Sharing opportunities between business units

Question
-
I have broken our organization into business units.
The problem I have is a user at a lower level business unit requires access to an opportunity that is owned by a user in a higher level business unit.
I can re assign it, but the sharing does not appear to work.
I don't want to move the users around.
The role for the user at the lower level has visibility of the opportunities in his Business Unit and below (Parent/Child)… I don't really want to change the security if at all possible.
Any Ideas?

Yes = Sharing is available in 3.0 -
There was a hotfix for sharing that I saw when verifying this, you might want to check to make sure CRM is up=to-date with rollups and hotfixes - (takes a little more effort to get those in place in 3.0 than it does with 4.0)

Re-assign the opportunity to the user at the lower business unit - and the user at the higher business unit will still be able to view the opportunity based on the parent/chile relationship.
Or - use the CRM "Share with another user" feature to override the security of the opportunity by sharing it with the user in the lower business unit.

The owner of the opportunity can select to Share the particular opportunity with the other user. You don't need to re-assign the record to share it.

Sorry, that's the first thing i tried (having the owner of the opportunity share the opportunity with the user at the subordinate Business Unit)... It seemed intuitave but it didn't work..
I was not 100% sure if that functionallity worked accross business units... Could there be something wrong with our instance of CRM??

yes - sharing works across business units - were they able to see the opportunity (also remember that it will not show up in the new users list of "My Opportunities" - they will have to search for it. - common mistake.)

Also, just to check, ensure the owner gave the user read rights on the record when it was shared.

I've had already searched for it... and given the user full rights (not just read)...
Is there a system setting that enables it?
Is this functionality supported in CRM 3?Friday, November 13, 2009 6:32 PM -
Hi Scott / Donna
I've just confirmed that it's the environment... It does work, how you described, in our other environments..
Thank you for the help!
