Updating Tanjay polycom 1.0.522.34 RRS feed

  • Question

  • having OCS 2007 R2, I have downoaded the update and approve it, set up all the requirements on the MS document for deploying the update. the device is signing in normaly but it didnt get updated.
there is no errors in booth the IIS or the update dir.

I read in some forum, that any version less than 1.0.522.103 need to set a WINS server, I dont think so, since the device is signing in normaly, except it cannot receive calls from other communicator (it dial but not recieving), the questing here should I install the latest Hotfix for ocs to fix the problem.
and what about the update problem?

  • Werner,

Finally, the problem sorted out and the device has been updated successfuly.
I do really appreciate your efforts, you gave me a good hints, and I was suspecting the correct cause "IIS" :)

the "Http Errors" role service was not installed, that was crazy, because of that I was getting a blank page when try to browse any web site. anyway, I did install it, then I get the very known error 500.19 , that is solved by this KB:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/942055

then my device updated in two stages as expected.

you know waht, this is the scond issue I face because of missing IIS 7 component, live was much easier with IIS 6.

Many thanks for all the guys .

  • Take care and read through this document, maybe it helps a lot:

In this documentation "Update alter Tanjay-Telefone" (update old Tanjay
phones) you will have a guide on how to do this.

  • Mitch,

I already came across this article, it didnt fix my problem.

there is a strange thing in my scenario, when I try to download the file directly from IIS I got blank screen, and the IIS log gave me the 200 status, which is mean OK !
is it some thing special to IIS7 ?
    Wednesday, July 22, 2009 12:10 PM
  • no you should recieve a pop up to accept the download, on the version you are talking about though you might want to try logging in with domainname.com\username and the username. for some reason (I do not know all the technical details) it seems to work.

As far as IIS7 it all seems to work on my systems. Can you verify the updates are actually in the correct folder as it pertains to the article?

  • Can you run logging on the Mediation server for S4, Inboundrouting, outboundrouting and SIP with All Flags. Look for the To/ From and ACK fields and post the log here.
logging should be run as you try to call the cleint with Tanjay.  Once the the call drops, stop the logging and view results in Snooper.

  • Mitch,

I think the problem related to IIS , since the IIS log give the 200 ok reply, so the device is requesting the correct VD (which contain the interim Update first).
but the thing is that as I told you I can not browse it on the IIS .
I had checked the premission and ssl setting on the vertual directory.
regarding the login scheme, I am already logging in using the format you specify it, the device is connecting and can dial even.

if there is any troubleshooting steps can be taken to verify the IIS setting inorder to allow anonymous access the VD.

    thanks alot for your time.

  • Helped me also ....

    Try this:

The cause could be that the device is not able to access the firmware, because it is getting HTTP error 500.19 (0x80070005 – ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED) back from IIS, when trying to download the new firmware.

To solve the issue you need to change the Connect as value in Basic Settings for the _int vdir from Pass-through authentication to connect using the RTCGuestAccessUser account specified when you added the server to the EE pool. It will then be the same configuration used for the _ext vdir.

    It was explained at:
    http://blogs.technet.com/jenstr/archive/2009/01/08/http-error-500-19-when-accessing-ocpe-firmware-urls-on-windows-2008.aspx

  • Werner,

if you notice in this article:
    GET /DeviceUpdateFiles_Int/UCPhone/Polycom/CX700/A/ENU/3.5.6907.0/CPE/cpe.nbt - 80 - <browser UA string> 500 19 5 78

in my case, I am getting 200 not 500, which is mean it is ok.
as I told you when ever I try to browse the link in IE I get blank page without any error. I am suspecting that IIS7 is not producing the proper error messages, is there a way to turn on errors on the IIS?

anyway, I will try this solution later on this week, since I am on short vacation.

    thanks for your time.

  • Guys!

I think the problem is very related to IIS7, everything else is as per the MS document, except that when I try to browse the link
    http://localhost/DeviceUpdateFiles_Int/OCInterim/ENU/cpe.nbt
    or the link
    http://localhost/DeviceUpdateFiles_Int/UCPhone/Polycom/CX700/A/ENU/3.5.6907.31/CPE/CPE.nbt

I am getting a blank page on booth cases, MS said you should be able to save a file.

    any idea?

  • Have you confirmed that the file is actually in that directory?

  • Sure.

when I right click the VD and choose explore it gives me the correct path with the correct files.

the interim update is embedded into the R2 version, it should be correct. see the IIS log when I do manual restart the device:
    2009-07-27 05:54:05 10.10.5.130 POST /RequestHandler/ucdevice.upx - 443 - 10.10.5.151 Microsoft+UCPhone+Device 200 0 0 202
    2009-07-27 05:54:05 10.10.5.130 GET /DeviceUpdateFiles_Int/OCInterim/ENU/CPE.nbt - 80 - 10.10.5.151 Microsoft+UCPhone+Device 200 0 0 998
    2009-07-27 05:54:06 10.10.5.130 GET /DeviceUpdateFiles_Int/OCInterim/ENU/CPE.cat - 80 - 10.10.5.151 Microsoft+UCPhone+Device 200 0 0 124

yes, the save as dialogbox should come up with the link above.

Did you try all my hints suggested?

    1. Create an A Record ucupdates-R2 into your DNS for your Update Server (I am not sure if this name hast to be on SAN certificate also, but I have put it there)

    2. Correct the links in WMI as described by here:
    http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.msxfaq.de/uc/ocsupdateserverr2.htm

    3. Import the UC-Updates. RightClick on the poolname and and under Device Updater import the newest UC-Updates
    (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=565595be-6cf3-4a61-a1e4-12555749ca64&displaylang=en)

    4. Correct the IIS7 settings related to authentication on this article
    http://blogs.technet.com/jenstr/archive/2009/01/08/http-error-500-19-when-accessing-ocpe-firmware-urls-on-windows-2008.aspx

You can test it this way:
RightClick on the Shortcut DeviceUpdateFiles_Int in IIS the on the right side of IIS config menu click on Basic Settings (Actions menu right side) then in the popup click Test settings. Two green marks (Authentication and Authorization) should appear.

Repeat it for DeviceUpdateFiles_Ext and there also two green marks should appear.

If not, change the permissions as described under the link above.

    Cheers

  • Werner,

1- I had created the booth A records (ucupdates and ucupdates-r2)
2- I edit the links in WMI to reflect the correct VD as you suggested.
3- the newest update is imported correctly and approved, Hints that our problem is not with the last update, the problem is the device is not getting the interim update!
4- although I didnt get the 500 19 error message in my IIS, I modify the IIS setting as per the link you specify it.

and I am getting the green marks for booth the DeviceUpdateFiles_Int and DeviceUpdateFiles_Ext

    one more question.

Do you have debugging enabled through all these troubleshooting procedures on your IIS7? (Hint is the 200 message, because it means succeeded)
Deactivate debugging which is the default and try again.

  • If you mean the IIS logging feature, it is enabled by default.

what is the benefit of disabling this feature?
    Monday, July 27, 2009 7:07 AM
  • No, I do not mean logging, I mean debugging.

All error codes related to IIS7 are described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/943891

and a message 200 means: Succeded

From another not related to OCS page
    Question:
I was expecting a 500 error code, but code is always 200. There is no error file in the FailedReqLogFiles folder.

    Answer:
OK, i think the issue is actually with Enable Server Side Debugging. You may have it enabled, but you should disable it instead. The server thinks it should start debugging and tries to fire up a debugger, and then doesn't find one and just gives up! I'm sure this never happened prior to IIS7.

The answer was voted as a Solution

Have you reset your Tanjays already to factory default?

As I told you already in my environment I got it running Update-R2 service with all the hints I published already. Now, as you have a 200 messages which means succeded, I thought it would be worth to check these debug settings also.

A last suggestion I can give you is to reboot the server, and go carefully step by step through all the suggestions again. If it doesn not work after this I would try a MS Support Call directly or give remote acces to your machines so that we can go through the settings together. Maybe 4 eyes are seeing more than 2 eyes.
