automatically generate emails, but manually send RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

A customer would like the CRM system to read an externally generated report containing transactions, and generate an email (possibly using a template) to address the account owners of any transactions that meet certain criteria, requesting further information. These emails should be generated automatlcally by the system but not sent! A user should vet the emails and decide there and then whether to send the email or not. Can this be achieved in CRM 2013? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  • using workflows, you could create a email activities (two options are there, create email and send email.)

create email creates email in draft status.

using code you can execute a workflow.

so, using the above two combinations, you could trigger a workflow from a plug-in or a windows service and create emails in draft status. They will not go out unless some one clicks send button.

you could also create email activities against a user who do not have permission to send emails. They also will sit in draft status.

I am just outlining the possibility. Hth.

let me know if you need more info.

  • You can create email and not send them using workflow of the shelf. However workflows can read field but might not be able to read your report containing transaction. You might have to develop this reading feature.
