  • I have a dell laptop that has always had windows xp. I attempted to download the new WMP, and it saying that I need to validated copy of windows. I did that. It validation complete, but still wont allow me to upgrade to new WMP. I ran report and this is what I got. Please help

    Hello billsfriend40504,

    So that means if we put the Dell OEM license for XP Home back onto your Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop, you will once again have a Genuine installation of Windows.

    Backup and offload any data that you do not want to lose, then use the Dell Recovery/Reinstallation solution provided by Dell to put XP Home back onto your computer.  It's likely that the computer came with a Dell OS Reinstallation disc for XP Home, which would be in the form of a Dell branded CD with a maroon colored silkscreened label.
