  • There are no legal sources of Key-only licenses for Windows 7.

You would have to purchase (almost certainly) an OEM System Builder package - which is not transferable to a new computer (remember that the motherboard is considered o be the computer in this instance).

You may want to think about buying a Retail Windows 10 license, which would be transferable.

  • There is a
problem with your Software Protection Service - something is preventing it from
starting on demand the way it should.

    Please use the
following in an attempt to isolate the cause.

    Click on Start

    in the Search
    box, type

    SERVICES.MSC

    and hit the Enter
key - accept the UAC prompt if you get one.

    Look in the
console for the Software Protection service, right-click on it and select
    Properties.

    make sure that
the Startup Type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start), and click Apply.

    Try starting the
service now - do you get an error message? Does it start? does it almost
    immediately stop again?

    Post back with
your results, and a new MGADiag report.

    If it doesn't
start, then please do the following...

    Please open an
Elevated (Administrator) Command Prompt window and use the following
    commands....

    net start sppsvc

    sc qc sppsvc

    sc queryex sppsvc

    sc qprivs sppsvc

    sc qsidtype sppsvc

    sc sdshow sppsvc

    net start sppuinotify

    sc qc sppuinotify

    sc queryex sppuinotify

    sc qprivs  sppuinotify

    sc qsidtype sppuinotify

    sc sdshow sppuinotify

Copy and paste the output to your reply

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • That's fine - and confirms that the problem is that the SPPC service has been completely removed from the system.

    I've uploaded a file - sppsvcx64.zip - to my OneDrive at  Noel's OneDrive

Please download and save it to your desktop.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

Save it to the default location

This should create a file sppsvcx64.reg

right-click on the file, and select Merge

Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.

    Close all windows, and reboot.

Run another MGADiag report, and post the results.

  • Good - the SPP Service is now functioning properly.

However, the SPPUINOTIFY service still shows a System Error 126 - which I don't remember seeing before.

From what I can make out this is due to a missing file - so we need to check that...

SFC -System File Checker - Instructions

Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-click on the Command Prompt entry

Select Run as Administrator and accept the UAC prompt
    - the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up.

    At the Command prompt, type

    SFC /SCANNOW

    and hit the Enter key

Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.

Upload the CBS.log file (compressed, please! - you may have to copy the file to your desktop to be able to compress it) to your OneDrive or DropBox Public folder,
and post a link - also post a new MGADiag report.

  • the upload worked fine.

The SFC scan reverted the custom themes you had installed - and the background data shows that there a few other problems present as well.

I think your best option is to install the CheckSUR/SURT tool, and we'll take a look at the logs from that afterward...

Please download and save  the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.

The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file  - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your fileshare so I can take a look - post a link in your reply.

  • Sorry - I thought I'd responded to this! :(

There is nothing in the CheckSUR logs to indicate problems.

Please run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log  file - it may show changes from the earlier one.

  • That looks a lot better - please post an MGADiag report....

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

     Once saved, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.x

      - in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

  • OK - this machine appears to be based on a retail motherboard.

The installed Product Key is one ONLY valid on machines which were pre-installed with Windows 7 by the manufacturer, and requires a built-in certificate in the BIOS to be able to activate properly - retail boards such as this don't have the Key.

From where did you purchase this machine? It looks to me as if the vendor installed the OS with a hack to bypass Activation and Validation requirements.

Is there a COA sticker for Windows 7 Home Premium on the case? (or any version of Windows??)

  • I bought windows 7 on amazon (or something familiar, dont remember anymore). I had this issue since I wanted to install windows 10 for the 7 users, but when I installed 10 my pc crashed for some technical reasons (not the software itself). When i start up the pc again i had this issue.. and yes im honest i tried to bypass the activation, because it was annoying but it didnt work. Maybe i will find the windows case though..

  • If your Windows purchase was genuine, then it should have come with a COA sticker, or a Proof of License card in the case with the disk - if not, then it was counterfeit to start with.

If you have the materials, you may be able to get replacement media and Key from MS - see here...

  • well as i said i dont have the case anymore unfortunately.. so the only thing which could work is to buy a new key it seems right?
    Wednesday, June 22, 2016 12:52 AM
  • There are no legal sources of Key-only licenses for Windows 7.

You would have to purchase (almost certainly) an OEM System Builder package - which is not transferable to a new computer (remember that the motherboard is considered o be the computer in this instance).

You may want to think about buying a Retail Windows 10 license, which would be transferable.
