Suggestions box should be moved to the far right of the screen and thus out of the way

Question

The suggestions box opens every time I open a message even if I have a second ago closed it (the box).In its present location it almost completely blocks most of the useful section of the breadcrumbs.I can *just* manage to select the "set" of forums (in this browser and screen - even that link might well be blocked in a different portable perhaps with a smaller screen), but the next level (individual forum) is not available to me until I close the suggestions box.In other words the suggestions box's location is totally incorrect. There is no need in any case for it to be given such prominence and if it should appear at all (I don't see the point) it should be placed well to the right of the screen where it does NOT block the breadcrumbs.

What suggestions box are you referring to, Mike? Are you talking about the search in tha masthead?
Thanks

Mike, what suggestion box are you referring to? The only suggestion box I can think of is when starting a new thread we "suggest" other threads already started.
Since you're talking about under the breadcrumb are you referring to the "Ask a Question" and search box area or perhaps the forum "Announcements"?

I think he's referring to the new autocomplete/scoping dropdown that the search team put in the masthead, but I'm not really sure...

Ok, well you're talking about the search box in the masthead.
That box is only displayed when i click on that search box. Are you seeing it without clicking on it? That's probably why i'm confused, it shouldn't be showing unless you clicked on it, if that's the case it must be a browser issue, does it repro in FF3 or IE 6/7/8?

It must depend on browser version, and possibly Windows version.
I see no such box. All I see is the dropdown for the search box, in line with the Ask a Question link. It has three options on where to begin searching the forums.
Right now I am using IE 7 on Windows Server 2003 R2 x64.
I am getting up the nerve to try IE 8 again. The RC gave me problems. I'll see what the RTM does.Saturday, March 28, 2009 10:12 PM -
The final release of IE8 has been working great for me with Windows Server 2008 at work. My laptop has windows 7 with an older version of IE8 which doesn't work as well so I have compatibility mode on in that case. The search box he's seeing is the one at the very top in the "masthead"

This is Safari for the Mac. It's not my main machine (which is an HP Workstation Desktop which has a Vista license but actually has XPPro+SP3 installed) but it is the one I have with a small form factor that will sit easily on my lap (and unlike the Acer Ferrari running Vista won't burn me at the same time). So when at home it's the machine I use for forums most of the time. Otherwise I use on different machines Chrome; IE8 and IE7 but I've not used any of those with the new forums yet so can't comment on whether this thing sticks up there as well. Here it is a pain.

Ah, I see the problem now on Safari on my iPod Touch, I'll have to send this info to our Masthead team to fix.
