HP Mediasmart desktop icon doesn't work RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I originally set up the home server, everything went fine except for the remote access.  I am confident that my remote access issues are ISP related, but now I can't access the mediasmart server from the desktop icon it created when I installed the software.  I have tried reinstalling the software, but still nothing.

I can access the windows home server console, but can not acess the homeserver website from within my home network.

When I click the icon on the desktop, it just tells me that internet explorer can not display the web page.

I think I need access to this website to get use of many of the features of the mediasmart server.

I have the HP mediasmart EX 495.

    Any ideas.

  • Are you accessing it from http://server/ or the external http://xxx.homeserver.com ?
Can you try by IP address?
If your Remote Access functionality is indeed not loading, you would have to do a server reinstall

OP is trying to access HP mediasmart from desktop icon on client.

EDIT: I guess you changed your servername from the default HPSERVER to another name during (or after) setup of your server. Probably this name change isn't properly propagated to your client when you install the connector. You can try to uninstall the connector software on the client (using add or remove programs). If there's any other Mediasmart or Homeserver software listed in Add or Remove programs on the client also please uninstall. Reboot client, then reinstall connector software from http://yourservername:55000.

If that doesn't fix it please post again, I will then look for another solution later today.

  • I was able to connect via the IP address, but it goes straight to the "Twonky Media" page.  Still not the mediasmart server page.  Since I just got this EX495, and I have probably tinkered with it too much already, is there a way to do a server reinstall?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but this hasn't changed anything.  If I could wipe everything clean and start over, I think I would have better results.

    Thanks for the help.

  • Did you try what I suggested? More specific, did you uninstall both HP Mediasmart Server and Windows Home Server Connector from Add or Remove Programs, then reinstall from http://yourservername:55000?

  • I tried your suggestion, it still doesn't work.  When I click the mediaserver desktop icon it enters the address  http://mccombserver/Hphome.  If I edit this and remove the "Hphome", it takes me to the "Twonky media server".

Still no way to get to the HP mediaserver.

I would be grateful for any other ideas.
