WMP 11 for Vista and the HDV format don't work together RRS feed

  • Question

  • WMP 11 for Vista on my Toshiba Satellite:

Does not automatcally accept the .m2t suffix as a valid video format.

Until today on the same machine it woud play HDV (.m2t) files as 4x3 aspect ratio files, rather than 16x9.

Beginning today it displays all 1440x1080 files as though the horizontal hold on a crt was missadjusted - the picture consists of extreme diagonal stripes:

Both pictures were created on the same computer simultaneously, so the requisite codecs have to be present.

I wanted to uninstall and reinstall WMP to see if that would help, but there doesn't seem to be any way to do that.  I've tried to download updates but I'm running the latest version of WMP 11 available.
