Windows activation failed after Motherboard upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

Yesterday i upgraded my motherboard,CPU and ram and re-built my PC with the same hard drive that i used before.I purchased windows 7 when it was first released and upgraded to 10 last month. My windows serial key is now blocked, i presume activation thinks this is a second install on a second machine, how do i unblock my serial key that i have paid for?

I cannot go back to the re-seller as i purchased windows 7 years ago. There appears to be little assistance regarding this anywhere on the official microsoft website although this would be a common issue for PC users i presume.

    Kind regards

  • If your copy of Windows came pre-installed, it's likely that the license was invalidated when you hanged motherboards - OEM licenses are ONLY valid on the original board.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

     Once saved, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.x

      - in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
