WHS2011 -- videos showing in shared folders, but not in media folders RRS feed

  • Question

  • First off, my ultimate goal is to stream my Windows Media Center recorded TV files to Windows Phone 7.  Based on the supported video formats, it seemed MP4 was the most likely to succeed.  I converted some WTV files to MP4 and put them in my Recorded TV folder on WHS2011.  Using my browser, I remotely connect to my WHS box.  My MP4 files show up if I look at them in Shared Folders.  They are not present if I look for them in Media.

Is this a video format issue?  Is there some magic I need to perform to get them to sync?  Have people had better luck with other formats?

  • Generally speaking, I don't believe Microsoft supports Mpeg-4 video in an MP4 container. There's limited support for some types of MP4 compression in some versions of Windows Media Player, for videos stored in an ASF container, I believe.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
