Does the WHS Connector Compress data before transfer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've looked high and low for a simple yes/no answer to this question. Does the WHS Connector compress data to be backed up before it transfers to the Windows Home Server?

  • It transfers changed clusters, no data in file form. If that data is still beeing compressed? To be honest I don't know and did never read about, but I would assume this would create too much overhead (especially given the low CPU power on the most home server appliances) and therefore is not the case.

  • Microsoft hasn't said one way or the other (and I doubt that they will), but according to my tests back during the pre-release beta in early 2007, no it doesn't. I doubt that this would have changed, since the backup data transfer hasn't shown signs of being terribly broken. :)
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
