WHS somehow "ignores" a drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new and just installed WHS:
    CPU Intel 2.6 GHz
    Memory: 1 GB
System on a Western Digital HD 160GB, IDE, 24% used
Disk 1: WD HD 500GB, SATA, 54% used
Disk 2: Maxtor HD 500GB, SATA, 0% used
Disk 3: WD HD 1TB, SATA, 9% used
Disk 4: WD HD 1TB, SATA, 9% used
Folder duplication set for all folders.

The interesting part of this set-up: The system uses only the WD HDs, but not the Maxtor HD. Any suggestions on how to change that or ideas what I might have done wrong?

    Thanks Eberhard

  • Windows Home Server uses an internal (and unpublished, at least the details) algorithm to determine where to put a file. That algorithm is designed to cluster files that are logically related (in the same folder) together on drives, and it's designed to use drives that are already in use in preference to drives that are empty.

So what you're seeing is probably perfectly normal.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
