Why make an SDK instead of a 'SyncToy' RRS feed

  • Question

  • I don't really understand why Microsoft has chosen to make the Sync Framework...

The functionality of syncing between databases is great, but i bet you 1000$ that what EVERYONE wants more, is a finished and polished program that is easy to setup and use.

Using the MSFX SDK, i've created such a program, that lets me easily setup sync scopes and automatic syncs using a windows service. All those hours necessary to make such a program seems wasted - and i bet that im now the only one making a program or script that uses the SDK. This means that 1000's of programming hours are spent all over, just for using the MSFX.

Wouldn't it be a better idea that Microsoft made that Sync Application ?
    - enable plugins for more databases (Oracle, MySQL...)
    - enable plugins for communication (WCF, SOAP....)

While programming with MSFX SDK, i keep thinking that the SDK is only 90% away from being a program anyway - i'm just doing the scaffolding... Heck there is only a few ways to use it anyway.

So, why hasn't Microsoft made a 'SyncToy' for databases ???
