No Vista Key / Computer Gift from School / Windows saying not genuine.

Question
-
My son attended the ANSEP science program for honors students at UAA in Anchorage AK. A project for the students was assembling a computer. At the end of the program ANSEP gifted the computers to the students. This was several years ago. The computer has been working fine for years, with the normal Windows Update routines, and yet now suddenly it is being flagged as not genuine. I do not have the manuals, KEY or recovery CD. Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder says the Product ID is not a match for the CD Key. The below is the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool results:

Your MGA report indicates the installation of a Volume License version of Windows Vista. This license is non-transferrable to individuals who are no longer enrolled students with the school who originally issued the license. In order to resolve your problem, purchase a genuine Windows 7 license and perform a "clean install".

Thank you. However I am admittedly a little perturbed I'll have to spend $140 bucks to keep my son's gifted computer running when it was fine for 4 years. But a sincere thank you for the answer.Saturday, September 6, 2014 7:07 PM
