This copy of Office is not genuine....... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just received a message on the Tool Bar of my Microsoft Outlook Inbox saying "This copy of Office is not genuine. Click here to learn more on-line"

I am not very computer literate, so please bear with me.  I purchased this computer over 1 year ago from Dell built to my specifications and had the software from them too.  Therefore it must be genuine??  I have never had any problems before.

Whilst this message is not so far causing any problems, it is distracting by its presence.

I ran the diagnostic as advised in this forum and my result is below.  I assume it is okay??

Does anyone know what I should do??  Laymens terms please,  Many thanks.

  • Hello fullwax,

Here is a snippet of your mgadiag report:

The report is telling us that you have two installations of Office on your Dell Inspiron computer:  a nongenuine volume licensing installation of Office Enterprise 2007 and a genuine OEM license for Office Home and Student 2007, which is most likely the installation of Office that came with your computer.

To correct this situation, uninstall the nongenuine installation of Office Enterprise by using the Add or Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.  Then restart the computer twice.

Next, start one of the Office H&S 2007 programs such as Word 2007.  If you continue to receive nongenuine notices, we have to do a little more housekeeping to clean up after the nongenuine Office installation.

First, visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button.  After ensuring Office H&S 2007 validates, restart the computer and open up Word 2007 again to see if you are still seeing nongenuine notices.

If not, you should be done.

If you still receive nongenuine notices, please go to this MS KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919895 and work thru the Methods.  Usually, running the MS FixIt in the Method 3 section corrects the problem.  When the FixIt completes, if necessary, reactivate Office H&S 2007, then restart.

Revisit www.microsoft.com/genuine, Validate Office, then open Word 2007 to be sure you no loner receive nongenuine notices.
