Description of the Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications application: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905474/en-us

In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, you'll see a button to click on which will provide information on how to acquire a WGA Kit.

  • zeroraven,

To help me understand the issue further can you please follow the steps below?

    1. Download and run the WGA Diagnostic Tool  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

    2. After running the WGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy to Clipboard". Paste the results into your forum response.

    Thanks,

  • Zeroraven,

Show the Notification to your parent(s) and ask to "get genuine."

  • Brandy,

Please follow these steps for assistance:

Step 1 is to run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into a response in this thread.

Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with your retail purchase of Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center, or another version of Windows?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for?  See this page for reference:  http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/en/coa.mspx

  • Brandy,

To paste, start a reply message.

Place the cursor inside the composition area just under the toolbar.

The first three tools on the toolbar are Cut (scissors icon), Copy (one black and one blue page icon), and Paste (clipboard with blue page icon).  Click the Paste icon.

Or, just put the cursor in the composition area and then on your keyboard, press and hold CTRL then press the "V" key once, then release both at the same time.

Did you look on the computer case for a COA?
