Replacing System Drive - "Could not complete the server restore" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've recently installed Vail onto one of my systems and to start used my largest (1.5TB) drive as the System drive.  I decided I did not want to use the system drive in the pool so removed it, thus wasting lots of space and so I want to replace my system drive with a smaller disk (320GB).

From what I have found I should be able to just replace my system disk and do a repair installation and it will retain all the data in my pool.

After replacing my system drive and inserting the install DVD and selecting the repair options but keeping my data It gave the following error

"Could not complete the server restore"

After this it stated that i should resove the issue but there is no information as to what the issue is. Very poor in the problem diagnosis.

Any ideas on how I reinstall my server retaining my existing pool?

  • I did this on my Vail system, replacing a 1TB system drive with a 120GB drive.  Do you have server backup enabled?  Mine restored from a server backup, and it kept all my config info.
