  • You will need 2 subscriptions on two different LiveIDs. Each subscription is good for up to 3 computers and each LiveID can only have one subscription associated with it.

  • Steve, many thanks for replying.

Does that mean i am going to have to buy two subcriptions and pay around £40 for them each?

  • If that is the retail price in the UK, yes, unless you can locate a retailer that offers it at a discount. I'm not sure if Amazon.uk has a deal for you, but it is a little off retail now on their US web site.

  • Mmmmmmmmmm....I installed it on four computers using the same LiveID, and everything seems to be working. From your note, does this mean that one of my computers is not protected? They all appear to be up-to-date and all are included in my circle.

  • It may be working (well, it *is* working if it is in green status), but it is against the terms of the license agreement. You paid for a subscription for 3 computers, but are using it on a 4th.

  • I think this is going to be a common problem.  Many people have 4 computers in their homes now.  I'd much prefer an option where I could add additional licenses to my circle; one computer at a time.  I think MS needs to support this or risk losing business to those customers that don't want to buy 6 licenses for 4 computers.

  • I agree Ron, it would be far better to have the option to buy an additional licence as and when needed, furthermore if you have to register them with separate Live ID's I presume that will mean that everything is not in the one circle

  • I absolutely agree. I decided just to activate my trial version of McAfee on the fourth computer rather than create a new Windows Live ID that I will not be able to remember, anyway. If at least I could add the second subscription computers to the same hub, I may be getting sufficient benefit to stay with OneCare, but since it misses some issues that McAfee catches it is not clear what the added benefit of another whole OneCare subscription fee would be for one computer.

The other thing that Microsoft is really missing out on is a clear explanation of this as a part of the activation process. I got so frustrated not being able figure out how to even put OneCare on a fourth computer that I gave up. Only after I made the McAfee decision did I do a GOOGLE search and found this forum... that a Microsoft search did not surface! Sheesh.

  • Hi, SCRS. Yes, it is a real frustration that the ability to add licenses to an existing subscription has not yet been made available. I do think that this is long overdue.
