  • Question

  • I have Widows 7 Ultimate which was purchased from an online store. The packaging and COA all look legitimate, however after running smoothly for 6 months, I now find that with the New Year my copy is not genuine. Please advise if I have been sold a fake product.

I have tried reactivating by phone, including talking to an operator who advised me to call a number that I can't connect to from my country (Australia). I've also tried various internation prefixes, assuming that the number is for USA, but to no avail. The phone number  given is 1866 530 6599.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit : My CoA has ...

  • Many thanks for the prompt reply LVTravel.

It's not the answer I was hoping for, but I'll have to wear the fact that I've been ripped off. Now to jump up and down and try to get my money back.

It's a pity that there is no visual clue on the packaging that the product is an MSDN license, as that would have meant an immediate return to sender.

    Thanks again for your help.

The seller would not put it on the packaging anyhow.  The package doesn't come from Microsoft, it is a good counterfeit copy.  Just like the ones that sell Office Professional Plus for Office Pro in retail packaging.  It is counterfeit of a real product (volume license in this case) with keys that are sold just like yours was.

  • Now I see. It's actually high quality counterfeiting, and obviously worth their investment in fake holograms and such - so I must be one of many to make taht viable.

So the update now is that I'm Genuine - via the Microsoft site and an unexpected expense - and have a new product key, which is my precious, which I make invisible ;)

    Windows Product ID: 00426-956-*******-*****

And at least I have some nice counterfeit pakaging to keep my legal back-up disk in when it arrive in the mail.

And again thankyou for your time on these forums. It was so much easier resolving it here than over the phone to a call centre where different accents made things more complicated. I had to look up the International Alphabet Code so as we could both comprehend our dictions, a bit of a circus when dealing with 25 letter codes.

I'm Genuinely impressed. (pathetic, but couldn't resist !)
