Reinstalling Windows XP Home RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have HP Pavilion laptop with genuine Windows XP Home pre-installed and pre-validated before was it was bought.

I would like to reformat my laptop but I don't to use my HP ‘QuickRestore’ set of CDs as it contains a lot of unwanted additions.

I also have the original Windows XP Home CD which I want to use instead.

    1. Can I reformat my laptop using this original Windows XP CD without getting WGA warning massage…?

    2. Is there a way to somehow keep the validation info before reformatting my laptop and do I need it…?

    Thanx
    Joseph

  • The Product Key affixed to your HP computer is only valid with HP's recommended restore method.  You cannot use that Product Key with any other Windows XP installation CD.  It has been my experience that computer manufacturer's recovery or restore CDs do not include the many third-party programs that were originally installed on the computer by the factory.
