Valid installation of Vista Ultimate suddenly invalid

Question
-
I am having the same problem as hundreds of other users but cannot seem to find a solution. As requested I have included the results of the MGA diagnostic tool below. I have used this genuine copy of Vista (on my new PC) since 8 August. I validated and activated it on installation. Everything was fine until Friday evening when suddenly I was getting told that I might be the victim of software counterfeiting and that my copy of Vista is not genuine. I have spent the entire weekend trying to fix the problem but to no avail. Trying to get help from Microsoft is like trying to squeeze blood from a stone! I have Vista installed on my laptop as well (Vista Home Premium) and am not experiencing the same problem. One difference I have noticed is that on my laptop the update "Windows Update Software 7.0.6000.381" was not installed whereas this update was installed on my PC. I have tried restoring my system to a point prior to the installation but it makes no difference.
How many people does Microsoft want to piss off before they do something about this problem? At least send out some form of notification that you are aware of the problem and are working on it. Don't make us waste hours trying to find a solution - I read some of the suggestions on the forums and they are nothing short of ridiculous. How the hell is adjusting the desktop appearance settings to try and get Aero back going to solve a problem like this?
Please Microsoft, get your act together! Your software is expensive (probably why you have a piracy problem) - please make it work properly, you are costing me money!

Hello Az,
You should be able to fix that "No Installation ID" issue by:
1) Clicking the 'start' button
2) Type: slui 3 and re-entering the Product Key you are already using.
3) The wizard will ask if you want to Activate, click 'OK' (Vista will attempt to Activate over the internet)
4) Most likely, you will receive an error, don't worry move on with the Wizard. (if it succeed in Activating over the internet, your issue is resolved).
5) Once you are done with the Change Product Key wizard, attempt to Activate by Phone, again. The Installation should now be visable
Basically, by "Changing" the product key using the same key, we forced Vista to re-generate the Installation ID (as it would if you had actually changed to a different Product key)
If this does not work for you, my suggestion would be to call the Activation Call center, anyways and explain the issue to the Activation Rep. He/she should either help you resolve the issue themselves or transfer you to Customer Service which will get you to the proper Support group, that can help resolve the issue, for you.
Thank you,
Darin Smith
