Training material for certification

Question
-
Hello,
I am considering taking some exams for certifications and I was looking at the details for the certification I am interested in.
I could see they give a list of training materials, including online training and room-based training.
Are all those materials mandatory? Do I have to take all those training that are exepensive to me or can I just concentrate on the books?
Room-based training are not available in Japan in seems so I wouldn't be able to attend. So I hope it is not mandatory.
Sorry for that question that might sound stupid ... I guess it is not mandatory but I prefer to ask than having any unpleasant surprises ...

The training materials, nor the training itself, are not mandatory. However, going through these may help fill in the gaps of your knowledge on certain MS technologies. If, however, you feel your knowledge and experience will suffice for you to pass the exams, you can give these training and training materials a skip.
You can actually approach a CPLS near your location to check on exam and training costs. For a list of CPLS in Japan, please refer to this list:

I hope I gave you the right link; my Japanese is as good as my dev skills. =)

You do not need to do any type of training if you do not want to do it. If you feel that your experance is enough to pass the test. You can take most any test you want. It has been my experance that the Microsoft Press books DO cover most all of the material on the test. MS Press will also point out things to remember, with "Exam Alerts" in the book. I have also found that the Exam Cram seriers of books to be very vaulable. In most of my tests, I have used BOTH books to study from. Most importantly, I have done hours and hours of hands on in my own network. If you can do the same I would recomend doing that. Find an area that you are strongest in and find an exam that matches to that. Get some books to learn from, work hands on, take the exam. Good Luck in what ever direction you choose to go.

Thank you Salvador Manaois III, it is the right link ^_^
I know already which one I want to take and I'm really confident about that. I just didn't want to spend extra money if it was not necessary.
I will use only microsoft books, to check my knowledge ...
Thank you for your reply!
Tim, thank you too! I'm happy to see we can succeed with only the books! That motivates me even more!

Hello,
Thanks for the information you have all sent. I would appreciate if someone could help me with a question related to this issue. Does somebody know if MS Press has edited books for the exams on .NET 2008?
Thank you in advance for your help and support, Ana.
