Installation problem with Outlook 2013 and Windows Search RRS feed

  • After installing Office 2013 (upgrading from Office 2010), everything worked fine -- except Outlook.

    When I start Outlook 2013, it seems to run some installer, saying that the configuration needs to be updated. After that, it requests a reboot. After the reboot, the same thing happens again.

    I can avoid the problem by disabling Windows Search. Unfortunately, that means search is disabled within Outlook as well (the fact that Outlook relies on an external app for search seems like a serious architectural design problem, but that's another issue).

    My question: how can I re-enable search without having Outlook 2013 fall into a never-ending loop of reconfiguring and requiring a reboot?
