cannot communicate with server RRS feed

  • Another one of the dreaded Cannot communicate with server.

    This one is from "MY Tasks" - for two different users. One has professional and one only has the client.

    I suspect its a specific plan doing this - but after deleting the plan from the server - they still could not access My Tasks.

    Now thinking clearing the local cache from the Server Client - if they delete IE Cache - Temporary Internet Files

    Is there anything else they should be deleting ?

  • Hi Burnley,

    I assume that this is a 2007 install. Can you be a little bit more specific to what exactly the issue is. What kind of error mesage does your user experience and under what circumsdances.

    PS: I dont think that this has anything to do with the MS Project Cache if you have error messages in MyTask.

  • Sorry - Its Server 2010.

    From the PWA - when these two users Click "My Tasks" they get the error message - all others are OK.

    That's all the information I can give you.

  • HI burnley,

    Since this is only happening for 2 users, I would ask them to logon to a different computer to see if the same issue occurs on different computers. If this is the case at least we know it is user and not computer specific. If this is not the case, than I would compare the computer settings ( Internet explorer settings) of thie computer where it works and where not.

    Having said this. I do have this issue at times too, not only on tasks but also in the project center. A refresh in the browser ( somethimes 2-3 times) resolves this issue.

    LEt me know how you go and I am sure we will be able to identify the issue and find a resolution

  • Interesting, I wonder if this is the same issue since it only occurs with 2 users. Burnley checkout the hotfix and maybe that is also a solution to your issue. Please let us know

  • Its work trying, but since this only happens to 2 users, you may want to check my options first. Having said this the hotfix is certainly a good idea and hopefully will resolve your issue

  • Fault moved with the user - so not the computer.

    Looking into it its not the whole plan - as some resources can still see their tasks. After looking at individual tasks - stumbled acroos a lot of text in notes - which was cut and pasted from a different system - which low and behold had a lot of rich text. The users that worked had no such text.

    So will apply the hotfix tonight and check again tomorrow - and post results here.

  • Did it at Lunchtime instead. Applied HotFix's - rebooted server.

    And all works again. The hotfix was the correct answer.
