  • Ok, since the update, I been having all kinds of problems with WLOC with error messages and nothing wanting to turn on. I have did several system restores and it always ends up the same, some sort of issue with WLOC.

Ok, so I said heck with it and went to uninstall it so I could reinstall. Well, uninstall goes fine but then I loose both my DVD drives. It says there is an error in the registry. I tried uninstalling them and rebooting, windows finds them and reinstalls them but then shows a yellow ! and says there is a problem in the registry that's stopping them from working.

Ok, so I do another system restore. Drives are back and so I try to uninstall WLOC again and exact same problem, reboot and DVD drives are broke.

I can't reinstall WLOC right now because of the network issues people are having.

So, why would I loose my DVD drives when I uninstall WLOC? That should not happen.

I'm just glad I only installed it on my spare computer that I don't mind screwing up. I guess I'll wait till the 28th when their system is supposed to be up and hope it works. I don't care if it gets hosed but it's still a hassle to reinstall windows.

  • There have been a few reports of the DVD/CD drives disappearing from the system on an uninstall. And you're right, that should not happen.

I'd recommend filing a bug on that issue - https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=168

As for the drive problem, see if the utility written by Doug Knox, fellow MVP, helps - http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm

  • Thanks so much for that link. It worked perfectly. Got my drives back now.

Also, sorry for another topic on the issue. I looked but didn't see the other topic about this when I posted this one but, I see it now Sad

I didn't post another bug report. I just added to the validation of the one that was already there.

    Kaye,

Instead of posting to an existing thread in the install topic for the 2.0 beta that has nothing to do with your problem, please start a new thread in the Installation folder for the subscriber version here - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=1252&SiteID=2

If you open OneCare, it should tell you what action you need to take. Please include that information in your post.

And, it might be a better idea still to contact support.

Support for v1.6 is via the information here - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1183038&SiteID=2

Thanks for adding to the existing bug report and I'm glad Doug's fix worked for you. No problems on the new thread. :-)

  • Sounds to me like you are going to have to reformat your

op system. you could try going into your bios, look at your boot order, if its your dvd drive, AS FIRST, change it to your hard drive. dont give up one care is a good program.
