Extended Support Granted for Vista Consumer Editions as of February 20, 2012

    General discussion

  • Microsoft changed the support lifecycle for Vista Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, and Ultimate on February 20, 2012.

All editions of Vista will now receive a full 10 years of security updates.  The new ending date for Vista support is now April 11, 2017.

Previously the Vista consumer editions were not scheduled for extended support.  Mainstream support (enhancements, service packs, and new features) will end on April 10, 2012 as scheduled.  Microsoft also made the same change for Windows 7 consumer editions.  Extended support for all Windows 7 editions ends in early 2020.
