  • Hello Heidi Daley,

Thank you for posting your diagnostic information. Diagnostic results help our team in determining the root cause of your issue.

We are sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is and why you are not passing validation.  Unfortunately, the Product Key used to install your Office Suite is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VLK editions of Operating Systems and Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VLK editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for MS Office are Upgrade Licenses ONLY and cannot be used as an original or base license for a new computer.  Please ask your systems administrator to logon to the eOpen site (https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/default.asp) and confirm what your company’s assigned VLK.  Sometimes how customers find themselves in this situation is that when their IT department was creating their VL image to be deployed to their desktops, they sometimes inadvertently use an incorrect product key because it was handy.

Look on the box or in the materials that came with your computer to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for Microsoft Office programs.  The following websites will help determine the validity of your operating system as well as identify various COA’s.

To find out if your Microsoft products are genuine, compare the anti-piracy features on your media and packaging to the features described in the link below. (These features may vary by product edition and by purchase method.)

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/product.aspx?pID=358c30c9-043a-47f4-b845-4591acd268a7&cID=fab9617a-57ff-4789-9397-6dac071b19b0&method=retail&displaylang=en

Please tell us about the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for your copy of Microsoft Office.

    1. What edition/version of Office do you have? To find your edition/version click Start, Word Options, Resources, About, there you should find the title of your edition.

    ·         Office Basic

    ·         Office Standard

    ·         Office Home and Student

    ·         Office Mobile

    ·         Office Small Business

    ·         Office Professional

    ·         Office Professional Plus

    ·         Office Enterprise

    ·         Office Ultimate

    2. Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3. Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4. Please provide the customer scenario you are experiencing.

    5. DO NOT post the Product Key.

Not sure what to look for, see this page to reference your COA:

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/product.aspx?pID=358c30c9-043a-47f4-b845-4591acd268a7&cID=fab9617a-57ff-4789-9397-6dac071b19b0&method=retail&displaylang=en

If this comes as a total surprise to you, please visit the retailer where you purchased the Microsoft Office software and let them know the Office software is a counterfeit copy.  Please print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the VLK status. Request they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy.

Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is here to help protect YOU, our valued customer. It is important for more people like you to report piracy at the following link when it occurs.

    http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/default.mspx

Microsoft’s legal department will follow up on all leads provided.  Submitting piracy reports will assist in stopping unscrupulous business practices.  We CANNOT determine the "Quality" level of non-Genuine submissions and cannot guarantee such a thing here on the forum. You may be eligible for free software if you have high quality counterfeit discs as illustrated here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/howtotell/content.aspx?displaylang=en&pg=counterfeit

Again, we are sorry to hear about your situation. Please be sure to backup or otherwise off-load any data from the hard disk because a clean installation/reimaging will destroy all personal user data on the hard drive.

Thank you for visitng the OGA program forum.

  • In Office XP, you are using a blocked VLK. that may be why.
