WHS Box blew up, so installing new Motherboard, Proc, and Ram. Help?

Question
-
I came home from being out of town to find that my WHS computer was turned off. I tried turning it on a couple times, each time it turned on for about 15 seconds then turned back off. I cracked the case open to find that at some point recently the heatsink and fan had fallen off the processor! The clip that held it on actually broke in two. I have no idea how long ago it happened, but it appears that the processor or MB has pretty much burned up.
So I have purchased an updated MB and Proc, along with new ram, since my old box was about 10 years old.
What are the chances that I hook up the drives and turn it on and it just works? I'm guessing I have to do a reinstall. I have an 80GB system drive, a 500GB internal Data drive, and a 500 GB USB external Data drive. Most of my folders had mirroring turned on. Since both of my HD's are IDE, I'll hook those to the single IDE channel on the new Motherboard, then try a IDE to SATA adapter on the DVD drive.
Anything I need to know before starting? I need to get my data back ASAP!Monday, March 30, 2009 10:58 PM

Hardware from 10 years ago? Virtually none.

Most likely.

Just make sure your 80 GB drive is set up as the master on that ribbon and you should be good to go. Make sure all of your drives are listed in the Load Additional Storage Drivers screen and if they are, you should get Server Reinstallation as an option. If you don't, stop and post back here.

Unless the new hardware is close to being identical to the old then the odds of being able to just throw the drives in and have it work is slim. That being said, installing WHS is a fairly painless process and data recovery should be as simple as adding the data drive to the pool. During the initial WHS beta I performed this process several times and always ended up with a working box in less than 6 hours from initial install.Monday, March 30, 2009 11:54 PM

So after a few days of dealing with rebuilding hardware, I was able to get the server reinstallation done fine. It appears that my data survived intact. Much thanks to this board for giving me the nerve to try this.Thursday, April 2, 2009 5:16 AM
