Automatic Renewal of Onecare

Question
-
I just had my Onecare subscription renewed yesterday and received a confirmation email saying so. The little window saying how many days I had left until the next renewal has disappeared but the program still updates and is showing green. How much time does it take for Microsoft to update it's records or is it entirely up to my credit card company as to when it processes the transaction? Also will the service stop if the transaction takes a long time to process?
Thanks for any advice offered. J.B.

It should only take a day or two for your subscription status to update. The One Care service should not stop as there is a few week grace period after expiration.Tuesday, June 24, 2008 1:28 PMModerator

Note that renewal takes effect on the date that your current subscription expires and that it can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare if you are renewing within 30 days of expiration and 5 days if renewal was performed between 90 and 30 days before expiration.
If the reminder went away, I suspect that the subscription has indeed updated. You can confirm this by going to http://billing.microsoft.com

The story so far is that the subscription has been renewed and the transaction has showed up on my credit card account as well as Microsoft billing so I am good for another year.
The renewal notice box has gone from the lower left hand corner of the Onecare main window. The question is when does it come back? I always thought that the reminder window would be there so that you didn't forget to renew. If that is the case all well and good, but if the window is always supposed to be there when will it reappear? Any clues? J.B.

Do you mean that the subscription status box in the main OneCare window is not displaying? After renewal, it should still show with the new expiration date for your subscription. You may need to reboot the PC and restart OneCare for it to show up again. You can also go to Help/About in OneCare to see your status, or log on at http://billing.microsoft.com

Partial success in so far as the Subscription Status Box returned on my second PC which I do net use all that often. It still hasn't shown it's face on my main Vista PC.
Steve: I have rebooted my main PC twice and the box still hasn't shown it's face yet. What do you mean by restarting Onecare, do you want me to disable the entire suite and then restart it and if you do could you please tell me the right way to do it. Thanks. J.B.

Rebooting the PC would include restarting OneCare. I wouldn't go through any other steps to restart OneCare. Give it a while to see if that subscription status piece reappears on the OneCare interface. Since it appears on the other PC's copy, we know that the subscription status updated. I don't know why it isn't appearing on the Vista PC at this point.
