MCITP EA and SA? Confused RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am a MCSA in 2003 (270,290,291) and have the 70-680 done (my elective for the MCSA).  I will be taking the 70-648 in about two weeks.  My question is where to go from there.  I currently am a Network Administrator, that has about 20 servers, with most migrating to 2008 R2.  I am not looking to stay here the rest of my career, so I am looking for guidance.  My plan is to get the Enterprise Administrator certification, but I am not sure if it would be beneficial to get the Server Administrator certification too?  I don't want to be sitting in a interview where they put MCITP:SA on the job description and be over qualified, or not get the job.

In the future I hope to be an administrator is a bigger environment, lets say 100's of servers, hospital or such.

  • The best recommendation would be to pursue the MCITP Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator.  It's somewhat equivalent to the MCSE 2003.  After you pas 70-648, you'd also have to pass 70-643 and 70-647.  Since you've passed 70-680, that takes care of the client exam requirement.

Thanks,  Would I be missing enough that its warranted to take the Server Administrator also?

  • If you earn the MCITP Server 2008 EA, there's really no reason to earn the SA also.

  • Hi,

You can upgrade your MCSA certification to MCITP. Check this link:

    Thanks!
