Microsoft Remote Desktop on Mac OS Catalina keeps dropping RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Support,

On my mac book pro I have tried connecting to a Windows PC using Microsoft Remote Desktop (MRD) for 2 days. Mostly, connection is dropped every minute, or every 3 minutes (error msg says "The connection to the remote PC was lost"). Sometimes also the connection gets frozen for half a second or so, and then unfrozen back.

It is then reconnected back successfully, but this way it's impossible to work on remote. Could this be fixed? Or maybe you could provide another version of the MRD client for Mac OS?

    Other environment I tried:
On Windows PC, when I remote to the same PC, it works flawless, when I use the same WiFi network.
On mac book pro 2012 mid, with mac os 10.13.6 and the same MRD version, it works brilliantly.

    Taken actions:
Deleting the app and installing it again did not help.
The target PC (the one I remote to) has been checked and has no problems over network

    Version info:
    Mac OS 10.15.7
    MRD 10.4.1 (1825)
Hardware: macbook pro 2015 512 Gb

    Network info:
WiFi network is stable and high speed
    No VPN configured
    Connection is done via gateway

  • Sounds like a networking issue, especially since you are using Wifi. Have you tried a wired connection? Has there been any recent network changes (equipment, settings, etc.)?

Open a console window and have a continuous ping going to the RDP computer you are connecting to. Connect to the PC while your computer is constantly pinging it. If pings stop when the remote connection drops, then we have found the issue.

Also, is Remote Desktop the only option? There are many and more secure options out there, just sayin'
