iPhone support!!!

General discussion

The big one for me would be iPhone support...
I really wanted to go WinMobile on my recent phone purchase, but ended up going over to the Dark Side because I just didn't find one with the needed form/features.
Keep working on the stability and remote desktop, but iPhone app/support would be the greatest...Thursday, January 8, 2009 3:22 AM

Microsoft did make one ipod/iphone app and said they liked working on making it...
if they take the "I want to beat mobileme" (which they easily can considering you have to pay for it) approach then yeah they will probably make one
but on the other hand they do not like to encourage other products at all, such as blu-ray on x-box, and I see them adding mesh to macs only because people wont decide between a mac and pc on mesh alone
no they most likely wont make an app due to how much support they need on their smart phones, but they might make it easier to access on the iphone web browser
(alternative options include getting a screen sharing app and looking at mesh from your own computer, air share app is nice, 2GB flash drives go for like $10 in some places)

This is a business/political issue rather than a technical one isn't it? Maybe some enterprising developer will step into the breach using the Mesh & iPhone SDKs..Thursday, January 8, 2009 10:29 AM

I guess I have a slightly different view on this.
I'm an IT guy who is never (knock on wood) going to use Apple/Mac on the desktops.
Just not going to happen in the corporate world...
I don't have a need for a big clunky WinMobile phone despite really trying to convince myself I wanted one.
I didn't see any way I was going to be able to stop carrying my laptop.
No way I'm going to be able to do any real work on a phone-size screen.
It would be a huge help to me if I could have my synched copies of support docs available for read-only on my iPhone.
How many tech support guys are using the iPhone vs. any WinMobile phone?
Sure, I can carry another flash drive, but why?
MobileMe, Airshare, etc. are very limited applications which don't have the potential of Live Mesh.
I don't want my users installing one more junk application on their pc's so they can synch with their iPhones.
The business/consumer market is obviously PC/MS dominated.
The "smart" phone market (in the US at least) appears to be going iPhone.
I don't think anyone is going to buy a iPhone/Mac because of Live Mesh being available (on it).
I sure do think they would sign up for Live Services though because of it.
I'm still looking for that really compelling Live Services app.
I'm still confused about where all the miscellaneous Live apps fit or don't fit.
Too much overlapping stuff with no clear direction. (Turf wars?)
Live Mesh is definitely a contender, but they're still missing a critical piece of my world.
I would see this a huge opportunity for the Live Mesh/Windows Live group.
Being able to really have my docs available on all my devices, whether they are tech docs or grocery lists would sure make sense.
Maybe MS isn't ready for all the new Live users who would sign up?
Why wait for Google to grab this market first?
I think Live Mesh has great potential to be a real killer app, but it won't do it if it doesn't think big...Thursday, January 8, 2009 6:26 PM -
There's already a wish for iPhone support on the sugegstions sticky thread. You may want to add your vote there. Depending on the number of votes who knows what will happen...
