  • Unfortunately, your installed copy of Windows XP Professional (Volume License) is counterfeit.  Please feel free to submit a Counterfeit Software Report.

  • The installation is based on a Volume License Key for Windows XP Pro (not Vista) - that Key has now been blocked - either because of abuse, or because the owner has revoked their subscription.

If you are a member of the issuing organisation, contact your System Administrator for assistance.

If you purchased this Key, then you bought a counterfeit.

For what version and edition of Windows is your computer licensed, according to the COS sticker on the case?

  • Everything came with the computer right from the store. A retail store.  Nothing has changed on the computer, it has all the original hardware and software and works perfectly.  I am afraid I don't know what a COS Sticker is. But the sticker on the case with the product key on it says Windows Vista Home Premium OEMAct Acer Inc. My System properties says Verison 2002 Service Pack 3.  Does that help?

  •  "System properties says Verison 2002 Service Pack 3" indicates your computer has Windows XP installed and not Windows Vista.  You need to contact Acer Support and ask them for assistance with their recommended procedure to perform a Windows Vista recovery.

  • Im just really confused how this could happen. I have been doing more research and have seen some comments about this happening when you install a new program.  I just installed Google Chrome right before this happen. Could this a reason??

  • No.  It appears someone who had access to your computer reformatted the hard drive and installed a counterfeit copy of Windows XP Professional on it.  Perhaps you need to question anyone who recently used your computer.

  • Wow that even more bizarre then why all of a sudden my perfectly working computer would do this.  No one in this house knows how to do that!!My God this is ridiculous

  • Have you sent the machine for repair at all? - many of the less scrupulous/skilful repair shops would do this sort of thing.

  • Are you saying that your computer was running Windows Vista and then when it was mysteriously changed to Windows XP, you did not notice it?

    Now that would be bizarre.

Sort of like not noticing that the black Ford you drove home from work and parked in your driveway last night has been replaced with a white Chevy.
