remote access to windows home server VIA homeserver.com - password box not showing up

Question
-
Hello,
I'm experiencing a problem accessing my WHS console remotely via homeserver.com. The remote computer I'm using is an Windows XP Pro SP3 with IE 8. I can successfully login to homeserver.com and see my list of networked computers and shared files. However, when I try to remote access my WHS console via the Computers tab, the WHS console login box (i.e. the blue box with WHS logo) pops up, but the white password box doesn't show up. Specifically, the password box stays blue and I can't enter in a password at all. While the blue box is loading, I occassionaly get some script errors that ask me if I want to debug or not - regardless of whether I say yes or no to debugging, the WHS console blue box disappaars when I hit OK. IE 8 says the page has loaded, but with errors.
Two of the script errors are:
Line: 4
Char: 1
Error: Syntax error
Code: 0
URL: https://myserver.homeserver.com/Remote/admin.aspxChar: 1
AND
Line: 812
Error: Object Expected
Code: 0
URL: https://myserver.homeserver.com/Remote/admin.aspx
I've added https://myserver.homeserver.com/ to my trusted zone.
Note that I'm pretty sure it's not a setting on my WHS machine as I can successfully access it the same way from my work computer (Windows XP - IE 6). I'm guessing it's some sort of IE 8 setting.
Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers,
Chris

I still have no idea what caused the password box problem, but it was fixed on the weekend by going through the Server Recovery process. I reinstalled all the previous add-ins and MS patches (including IE8) and everything is working well.
Thanks to those who provided suggestions.

Hi Chris,
maybe it is the same issue as described here - did you ever run the connection from that machine before after installing SP3?

Hi Olaf,
I just enabled the Terminal Services ActiveX control (it was disabled) as per the link you provided, but unfortunately it did not resolve the issue. Thanks for the suggestion anyways - hopefully some other suggestions will come up.
I have only recently purchased the WHS - so all attempts at connection from this computer have been after SP3 was installed.

I'm still getting the blue translucent box in the WHS console without the ability to enter in my password. I also get the same error on my IE8 desktop when trying to access the WHS console via homeserver.com even though WHS concole works no problem from my desktop directly.
One thing that I noticed yesterday is that I've started getting a "verifying port forwarding for your router failed" error message in the WHS console. I've confirmed that all my ports are forwarded properly through my router, but the error doesn't go away even if I try to repair the remote access connection.....
I have yet to verify that things are still working from my work computer (IE 6) as I am holiday. If things are still working there, then I really think it's an IE8 issue. If things are not still working there, then maybe the port forwarding is truly and issue.
Thanks,

Port 4125 is the port which is in use to connect to the WHS console via web interface.
Does it work from home via http://server?

Hi Olaf,
From http://server, I'm getting the same issue - specifically, I can login to the server and see/download all my files and see the computers that are hooked up to my WHS, but when I go to the computers tab and hit Connect to your Home Server (Remote Access to WHS Console), I still get the blue box that pops up, but the password box is still not visible (i.e. no white box - just a blue translucent box where the white password box should be).
Port 4125, according to my router settings, is forwarded to my WHS. I know forwarding is working because I have utorrent running on the WHS, and I can access the utorrent web GUI remotely.
thanks,

After suggestions from another board, I tried both replacing the admin.aspx file in the C:\inetpub\remote\ directory and the entire C:\inetpub\remote\ directory. Neither suggestion worked. My next step is likely a Server Recovery this weekend.
Anyone else have other suggestions?

I just tried mine from an XP machine with IE8. At first I got the yellow warning bar at the top of the IE window about running an Active X control. I said ok. Still wouldn't connect, but my password box was ok. I went into the Manage Add ons and enabled the Microsoft RDP then it worked fine.
Have you tried accessing from another computer? Maybe its your computer and not the server that has the problem.

Hi Kevin,
Yep, I've tried both two local machines via http://server/ and http://server.homeserver.com, and a remote machine via http://server.homeserver.com. Microsoft RDP is activated on all three systems. Unfortunately, I still get the same problem with all attempts.

Have you tried connecting from other computers? I'm wondering if your utorrent is somehow messing something up.Friday, June 12, 2009 4:12 AMModerator -
It has worked with uTorrent and it hasn't - so I don't think it's uTorrent causing trouble.
Maybe one of the Wake on LAN add-ins I've installed has caused the issue. I know it worked for a while with the first wake on LAN add-in I installed - I don't know for sure if it worked with the 2nd one I tried.Friday, June 12, 2009 5:37 AM -
