Possible to use My Book World Edition II with WHS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Will Windows Home Server also support installing on a Western Digital My Book World Edition II (1 TB storage) ? Is so how would it be done since it connects by ethernet cable to a router?

    Thanks

  • The My Book World Edition uses an ARM processor and is not capable of running Windows Server.

    From Wikipedia:

This drive runs linux on an Oxford Semiconductor 0XE800 chip which is based on the OXETHU954 chip. This is an ARM based chip. In addition it uses a Via Cicada Simpliphy vt6122 Gigabit ethernet chipset, and a Hynix 256 Mbit DDR Syncronous DRAM chip. The webserver is the lighttpd server.

  • It's very doubtful. The motherboards used in NAS devices are usually low power, with no support for a variety of devices that a Windows-based operating system requires. For example, can you boot your NAS from a CD/DVD?
