WHS Booting to System Recovery RRS feed

  • Question

  • Any one got any ideas with this?

I've recently done some updates and when I rebooted te server it wasn't accessible. Plugged it into a monitor and it seems it's only booting into System Recovery mode with the options to do some diagnostics but no option to just load WHS as normal. I've ran the Memory diagnostics and that passed, but the only other option is to load a System image which i don't have.
Thought i'd try booting into safe mofe but that also only took me into the System recovery screen. As did "Boot with last known good configuration)
I can't seem to get past this anyone got any ideas other than doing a clean re-install which I dont really want to? I'd been having some back up issues recently so don't know when the last backup was achieved.
I had thought i'd get an option to re-install the OS but keep my data but i don't seem to get that option from the DVD boot menu. Only "New Install" or "Repair Existing Install" which requires a backup system restore image.

A new install or Repair will destroy any data on the boot disk which would need to be restored from a backup (which it appears you don't have). Data on other disks should be safe.

I would be inclined to connect the boot disk to another PC and extract your data from it before doing a re-installation!
