Upgraded from W7 Home Premium to Ultimate - Windows Online Validation claims now not genuine..

Question
-
Can anyone take a look at this and let me know if they see the problem.
I upgraded from HPrem to Ultimate using Anytime Upgrade. All went well until I tried to download Virtual XP and it wont validate.
System was validated prior to upgrade and is an ASUS.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Ok done.
With Gib location:
Windows could not be validated.
With Spain location:
Same response from validation.
In that case, I’m out of ideas :(In the absence of anything from anyone else, your best bet would be WGA supportWGA Support can be found here-North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4
Outside North America:

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem - it would be useful for future reference!

Noticed this in your report. A Google search indicates this error is associated with time and date being incorrect. verify time and date are correct and try again as Carey says.

Same result. Exactly the same.
Don't know if this is of any use to you, but if I follow instructions with MGADiag, when I get to the support section Microsoft cannot find the product ID number themselves and when I enter product ID number Microsoft do not recognise the number.

Date and Time are correct as synchronized by time.windows.com.
I have checked again and same result : Windows could not be validated as genuine.
Wednesday, November 9, 2011 8:05 AM -
I noticed you have used an older version of MGADiag Tool.
Download the latest one here & re-post another report with it. Delete the older version.

Latest version MGADiag results posted above.
Validation site returns this:
The validation service couldn't determine whether the copy of Windows that is running on your computer is genuine. Please try to validate Windows again. If you keep getting validation errors, try to again later or contact support.
Diagnostic Site returns:
Genuine Microsoft Software Diagnostic Results
Passed Active scripting allowed Passed Display images enabled Passed Computer time and date correct Passed Cookies enabled Passed ActiveX enabled As stated before if I follow instructions to contact support, MS does not recognise Product ID which then forwards me to a payment page for the support..
As you can appreciate I don't want nor feel I should have to pay when I have a system that was Validated when Home Premium, now I have paid out £130 for the upgrade to Ultimate it is no longer validatable.

Everything looks OK in the report. apart from the HrOnline errorValidation failing as it does, suggests that the Licensing Store is corrupted.Recreate the Licensing Store
1) Click Start button.
2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
8) Type: net start sppsvc
9) Type: slui.exe
10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.
Reboot and attempt Validation again at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate and Post back with a new MGADiag report and the validation result.

My research suggests a certificates problem (which can be caused by timing disputes) – more likely here caused by licensing store errors, in view of the validation/diag results.

Followed your instructions and rebooted.
Validation returns:
The validation service couldn't determine whether the copy of Windows that is running on your computer is genuine. Please try to validate Windows again. If you keep getting validation errors, try to again later or contact support.
MGADiag returns:
Failed to create output files hr=x080070002. Please contact support
EDIT: Forgot to mention - After completing your instructions a window popped up stating Activation Successful.Hmmm – I just noticed something...Where are you?Your earlier report says that you are on Romance time (GMT+1) – but the validation response is for en-gb.Please check that your Regional and Time/Date settings are right for your location.I know the diags report them to be correct – but......

I am in Gibraltar. Regional setting for location was set to United Kingdom, I have changed this to Gibraltar.
Time/Date settings are correct at UTC+01
After reboot:
I have same result at Gen/Validation
Validation site does not have a Gibraltar location, I will be returning to Spain this evening where I live is it worth trying again later using Spain site?
I also have VPN access to a UK server is it worth trying through this?

Please clear the Temporary Internet Files cache, and cookies (you can keep your Favorite cookies) – validation may still be reporting your location as UK – then try validation again. If that fails, try using Spain as your current location – there may be a problem with Gib detection or something.

You could check your HOSTS file & make sure there isn't a Microsoft entry listed there that could be blocking the activation server.
C/Windows/System32/drivers/hosts
Open the file with notepad. If you see any Microsoft entries.
Delete it & re-save the file. Then try & validate online using Internet Explorer.

This is all that shows up in the hosts file.
Am I looking at the correct item?

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

# For example:

# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost

Yes that is the right file. Everything looks normal there. Just thought I would mention the host file suggestion.
I did notice that there is a newer bios version for the laptop on the Asus website. See here you may want to install it.

Ok, problem resolved. It required an hour long session with Easy Access and an MS Tech inside my laptop but we got there.
Many options were tried but the only option that worked was to uninstall BitDefender Int Sec 2012, software could then be validated, virtual pc and xp mode installed and then reinstall BDIS2012.
I have run validation again since BD reinstall and MS now validate the software without issue.
Once again thanks for all your help and I hope this information may help someone in the future.
Cheers!

Thanks VERY much for the info – it seems that there’s something odd with the latest release of BitDefender, as it’s also causing problems with Vista.Good Luck.

True, I had no issues with BDIS2011 but 2012 has given me a couple of headaches.
This being one, the other being the obtrusive vserv.exe which would take up all CPU capacity for no apparent reason for 10 - 15 minutes a day almost freezing the machine to a standstill.
The vserv.exe issue has not reappeared so it may have been patched.
