Phone re-activated Vista OEM,reboot=not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ok, this is getting me angry. I have a legit Vista Home Premium OEM. It's been verified as legit every which way it can be. It currently says its activated. I still can't validate it, and, every MS site to do so says it's not activated. I phoned in twice and filled in the correct numbers. "Now Activated...Thank You". Hang up...reboot and I get the pop up that it's not a genuine Windows product. No Error msg. As usual, it all started trying to download the Intel Reliability CPU update, I now wish I hadn't even tried. I'd have to pay $60 to MS for live support. If you give suggestions...please make them worthwhile. I've tried lots of things already.

  • Are you seeing error code 0xC004C4A6 when you validate by clicking "Validate Windows" here: www.microsoft.com/genuine ?
The error code will be gray and in brackets at the end of the message on the page that says validation failed.

If you're seeing that code, since you've tried phone activation please open a free service request by visiting: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?c1=509&gprid=9860 and post your confirmation number here.  I'll contact you directly so we can figure out the cause of your issue.

If you're not in the US, please also post the name of the support agent who contacts you by e-mail once you've made the free service request.

     Thanks a lot!

  • Thanks for replying.
I am not seeing an error code of any kind.  I am simply told at that page that I need to activate.
As I stated, I have twice confirmed that my CD of Vista is legit via MS phone activation process.
Noone else has access to my Vista CD product ID.  I am on one pc, one mb.
Upon reboot, I am back to square one.  "Not a genuine Windows product". I also have run Kaspersky anti-virus at all levels to see if a trojan got into my system, it reports all is well.

It appears that the problem lies when Windows restarts (obviously).  If  I had replaced my mb, I could understand this problem I'm having.  However, I simply replaced my HDD for a better one (brand new) and installed Vista Home Premium on it.  Then I went to download the MS Intel Reliabilty patch.  From there on..my troubles began.

I realize that the problem I'm experiencing usually resolves itself after phoning MS and getting a new activation, but for me it hasn't.   I don't want to force a format and start over, but I willing to do what is necessary to resolve this issue.  If that is what it takes...please don't be afraid to advise so.

  • Sorry, Yes, I am seeing that
[0xC004C4A6]  error.  I just wanted to post this because I can't seem to edit my posts here ( Netscape. lol).

I'm going to open a ticket as you suggested and report back.

    Thanks

Edit:  Confirmation #   This is confirmation # from earlier today when I reported the same problem.  I take it it is still valid.
