2nd Physical Location - Student RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am helping a friend set up a home business computer network.  His business at home will have 2 computers and he wants to cover his college student's PC with whatever we do on the home business front.

Is there any issue with OneCare supporting 2 computers in one physical location (and network) while the 3rd is on a totally different network location most of the time?

The questions focus on product updates and utilization of the backup feature.

    Thanks

  • This is a supported configuration, though the remote PC will not be able to use the Centralized backup to back files up to a Shared location on the local LAN. It can be configured to backup to an external drive attached to that PC, not using Centralized backup (or CD/DVD).

The only other things to keep in mind is that OneCare does not function with an authenticated proxy server. Circle functionality via the Internet will mean delayed messaging of the status of the remote PC to a hub, if one is configured, since it needs to be sent to the server and then picked up by the hub PC.

Finally, some schools have strict requirements about security software, so if OneCare is not an approved solution, you can't install other security software on the PC with OneCare without causing problems.
