Windows Defender - Services.msc question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Under services.msc I show an entry for Windows Defender and it's set to Automatic.  Can I disable that entry?  There is another entry under "OneCare Anti-spyware" which I think is the Windows Defender that is now included with OneCare.  So, can I disable that other Windows Defender entry?

    Thanks

  • You'll want to leave that setting alone. Defender will not start unless you remove OneCare or if you manually start it. So, the entry at automatic does not mean that the service is starting.
