View .dat file in excel? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everybody,

lately, I tried to open .dat file in excel, but end up with the not matching code table. I tried all from the available in the list, but still, couldn't make it look better.  Folder paths are visible and correct but the file names are screwed.

Can you please advise me, how can I do it. Or suggest another way how can I view, the preview results from the folder pairs? As I can't export it anywhere.

    many thanks,

    ZakiTraki

  • As you know, in the Windows world, file extension (e.g. *.dat, *.xxx, etc) does not always express file format .

If you want to open a file (e.g. *.dat), try to open it in text editor (e.g. notepad, notepad++, etc). You would/ could see its contents.  Sometimes you would be required to change character code set or to use binary editor.

If you cannot open the *.dat file in Notepad, please share it via cloud storage such as OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.
