Windows Home Server memory requirements/support RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was able to download it with no problems.  Now that it's 64Bit, will adding more than 4Gigs of RAM really improve the performance?

  • Microsoft has an MSDN article which details memory support for various operating systems. Given that Windows Home Server is based on a version of Windows Server 2008 (a version of WS08 R2, I believe) I would think it will support at least 8 GB of memory. I don't think you'll see much benefit beyond 4, though, to be honest.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • From my experience with Vail, I would say that 4 GB is more than enough. Frankly, I don't see any difference between 2 GB  and 4 GB with anything I'm doing. Given that the underlying OS is Server 2k8 R2, with a very defined workload, that is what I would expect anyway.

  • Currently our testing is with 4GB, and we don’t see any problems.
