Subscription renewal woes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been in contact with WLOC support (without success) & have read the post from Stephen Boots, regarding subscription renewal.

I originally had a Beta version of WLOC with one Windows Live ID & then was offered a discounted subscription to the full release version, which I accepted but used a different WLID because, at the time of joining the Beta testers group you were advised to set up a dedicated WLID, for the Beta release.

The Beta subscription expired on 16/Jun/08, but the other subscription runs until Feb. 2009.

As WLOC is associated with the Beta WLID, the icon in the Notification area is now red & I keep getting invited to renew the subscription. WLOC support agree that I have a current, valid subscription to WLOC but tell me if I want to associate WLOC with a different WLID I will have to take out a new subscription. I am not prepared to pay twice for the same service.

If I were to uninstall then reinstall WLOC would it pick up on the valid WLID subscription, or is there another way to get the icon in the Notification area to return to its 'green' state?

  • Open OneCare and click on Help/About. What is the subscription LiveID shown and what version is OneCare?

Sign in at http://billing.microsoft.com with that LiveID. What is the subscription status shown as?

I assume, from your description, that OneCare is installed with one ID and that subscription is indeed expiring, but that you created another subscription with a different LiveID that will run through 2009. If so, uninstall OneCare and reinstall it from http://onecare.live.com and then activate by clicking the subscribe link and sign in with the LiveID for the subscription that runs through to 2009.

  • Thanks Stephen - Your instructions worked perfectly, & first time.

What a shame the Support/Help desk accessed from within WLOC couldn't give me such a straightforward, concise answer to my problem.

  • Thanks for confirming that it worked for you. You're welcome. I can't say why support wasn't able to resolve it, but I think having two accounts might have confused them.
