starting up with new computer!!!!!

  hello my problem is ive inherited a computer its a dell and runs off windows7 professional it starts up fine and dandy just like candy only problem is I somehow can not login from the login page at all there is no way I can do this and it is making me very frustrated to the max of my max.....plz help me before I go and do something very non responsible plz!!!!!!!!
