Reboot every hour almost exactly

Question

Since the 2/13 my WHS reboots every hour almost perfectly. The event viewer just shows shutdown for an unknown reason. Any ideas where I can look for the problem? I wouldn't think that its hardware since it almost to the minute. I am still on the evaluation license but I would think if that had expired it would tell me.

You need to buy installation media without the time bomb, from a vendor like Newegg, Directron, or Amazon. It will include a license key for you to use. Reinstallation with your evaluation software will just reinstall the time bomb, which is not what you want.

How long has it been since you installed Windows Home Server? Have you joined your server to a domain (of any sort)?

It has never been part of a domain. Just my workgroup. I don't remember when I installed it but it must have been before November. If I just have to pay for a license I will do that I haven't found where I can enter in a license key. I see on the desktop it says evaluation.Saturday, February 20, 2010 6:07 PM

Then your 120-day trial is over (and that's why it's rebooting every hour).

No, it doesn't work like that. See the FAQ post: How do I upgrade from the evaluation/trial to a full copy of WHS? for details on what to do.

this helps a lot. I read through the instructions in the link but have one question. Do I need to purchase a license key first or will I be able to purchase through the reinstallation process?Monday, February 22, 2010 6:32 PM
