WIndows Vista suddenly won't validate, "non genuine" error messages

    Question

  • My (LEGAL!!) version of Vista, after a couple years of running just fine, suddenly won't validate and gives me non genuine error messages and won't let me download Microsoft Security Essentials. I've tried many of the fixes suggested, so far nothing has worked. Here is what I got when I ran the Diagnostic tool - which by the way tells me my copy is "genuine" (which I knew, thanks though). Yet it still won't let me download Microsoft Security Essentials. What do I do now?I have no idea what started this or which update or download might have made this occur - it happened a few weeks ago, is all I know.

You would appear to have at least two problems.
    1) Your installation of Office is using a Blocked Volume License Key - and is therefore counterfeit
    2) You have Kernel Mode and Mod-Auth Tampers.

The tampers are probably the result of installing an Anti-Virus which does not support Vista SP1 - you need to uninstall the AV, then install SP2 then reinstall your AV.

  • Apparently, you only have Service Pack 1 installed.  You need to install Service Pack 2.  Please see: Information about Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista
