hard drive broke - reinstalling windows 7 student promo RRS feed

  • Question

  • a few days ago i bought windows 7 with the special student discount for 35 Euros. i installed it, activated it and everything worked perfectly fine.
yesterday my hard drive broke and it was replaced by dell.
i wanted to reinstall windows but now it sais its an invalid product key.
is there any possibility of deactivating windows and reactivating it with the new hard drive?
i mean i payed for the software and i do not want to buy another license just because my hard drive broke..

  • You may have to call the activation, install Windows 7 with no key and then try to use the key in the control panel. There you can get the local number for your location.

if that does not work, open up a command prompt

    sliu 4

and this will bring up the activation options.

Actually it's:  slui 4   it starts the Activate by Phone wizard

slui.exe starts the general Activation wizard.
