Special Shares RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Linux based Samba shares remote NFS. It works great but I am upgrading to the WHS s it has more features.

I would like to still use this device for some storage, is there a way to map the network share of theis device to a directory on the WHS and then have that directory shared.

My intent is to only have to access 1 file server and see all my files.

  • What you want, is something like DFS. This is not implemented in Windows Home Server.

  • No.

Windows Home Server won't allow you to include network storage in the storage pool, and Windows itself will not allow you to share a network drive (which is already shared).

The recommended alternative would be to move the data on that Samba share into the windows Home Server storage pool and decommission or repurpose the Linux box.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
