CRM Outlook-Addin defect after UR7?! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello together,

    on my Win7 x64 machine, I've installed Outlook 2007 with CRM-Addin UR6.
After upgrading to UR7, the CRM-Toolbar and CRM-Menu in Outlook disappears.
When starting Outlook, the icon in the systray flashes up only for half a second and then disappears.

Windows Event Log shows these errors:

The Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in could not be initialized correctly. Restart Microsoft Outlook and try again. HR=0x8002801d. Context=. Function=IsMSCRMProfile. Line=1858.

The Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in was not initialized because Microsoft Outlook was started under a profile for which Microsoft CRM was not installed. Restart Microsoft Outlook under an appropriate profile, or install Microsoft CRM for the current profile. HR=0x0. Context=CStateEngine. Function=CInitializeState::Initialize. Line=72.

Diagnostics tell me only, that the plugin has deactivated - I can repair it, but after launching Outlook, it's the same error again.

    Please help. Thanks.

  • I don't know why it worked with UR 6 but is not working with UR 7, but the error message is associated with a Outlook profile issue:

"The Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in was not initialized because Microsoft Outlook was started under a profile for which Microsoft CRM was not installed"

Try logging into the machine with the login used to initially install the CRM Outlook Client.  If that does not work or you don't remember which login was used, then uninstall and re-install the CRM Outlook Client using the current login.

You might also want to consider installing UR 9 and see if the issue still exists.

  • if you have more than 1 outlook profile, set the one you use for CRM as the default and re-run the configuration wizard.

if not then try re-running the configuration wizard again.

  • I have only one outlook profile.

The configuration wizard was also used multiple times.

It does work with UR6! But not with UR7. And I don't know what to do.

  • Hi -

I am having the exact same issue - but am on Windows XP 32bit.  I updated Office 2007 to SP2, but still no luck.  I also have only one profile.  Where is CRM checking the profiles?

  • I'm experiencing the same issue here.

    My set-up is as follows;

    • Up-to-date Windows XP 32bit
    • Office 2007 (12.0.6514.5000) w/ SP2 (12.0.6425.1000)
    • Server is running Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Rollup 10 installed
    • Client is running Rollup 10 as well

User can access CRM over the web with no problems.

Up until UR7 was applied the Outlook client worked. Since then the error described in the original post occurs:

"The Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in could not be initialized correctly.  Restart Microsoft Outlook and try again. HR=0x8002801d. Context=. Function=IsMSCRMProfile. Line=1858."

Note that I did get the second error message leSasch reports when I was using UR7, but since installing UR10 that second error message doesn't appear.

Client diagnostics have been run and report no errors. The configuration wizard has been run and re-run. The client software has been uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times to no avail. A clean Outlook profile has also been created (only one exists) and all other Outlook add-ins have been disabled / removed.

Having enabled tracing I see multiple errors in the crmaddin-<date>.log file including:

    • CGlobalPointerNoGIT<struct Outlook::_Application>::Get
    • HrGetOutlookApp
    • IsMSCRMProfile
    • Initialize State execution failed Function: CInitializeState::ExecuteEx

If I had to speculate, I'd guess that the add-in is wrongly failing some kind of check (the IsMSCRMProfile procedure) and then failing to complete initialisation. I wonder what's different about my, Datex's and leSasch's Outlook configurations? As far as I know my Outlook config is pretty standard.

We're currently trying to evaluate the usefulness of Dynamics CRM for use within our organisation. Given that we can't get the Outlook client to install I'm not wholly impressed so far.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I might proceed with troubleshooting this error further I'd be keen to hear them.

    Best regards.

  • Just a quick follow up; I did some more reading around and came across this thread which described a similar problem. A few of the responses suggested that having Office 2010 beta installed might be the cause of the problem.

I eventually remembered that I had SharePoint 2010 Designer installed so tried removing that. 20 minutes and a reboot later; Hey Presto! The Dynamics CRM toolbar shows up in Outlook.

It's still not working for me - I've got a different error message about not being able to connect to the server but at least I feel like I'm making progress.

    Hope that helps someone.

  • Believe it or not, but the removal of Sharepoint Designer 2010 at least prevents CRM Toolbar from immediate crashing when Outlook starts!

    Great! :-)

Edit: Removed CRM-Addin and reinstalled it. Now it works!!

  • Sorry to say, but I have also connection problems with the server like BarneyG.
The CRM toolbar loads, stays in Outlook but refuses to do anything. It only says that it cannot communicate with the CRM server (which is working for 4 other users)

  • Did you ever find a solution to your issue... Thank you for the information as I had project 2010 installed and that was keeping my toolbar from displaying.  Finally got it to display and now I'm getting the same communicating with the server error.  Hopfully you are further along than me.  Any help would be appreciated.
