  • You have an ASUS factory installed copy of Windows

    Windows Product ID Type: 2
    Windows License Type: OEM SLP
    <Manufacturer>ASUSTeK Computer INC</Manufacturer>

but for some reason a Dell SLIC table in the BIOS.

    OEMB1458  SLIC DELL

My guess is that this computer may have shipped with Windows 7 Home Premium and the copy of Ultimate was copied over to it from another computer using a Dell SLIC table and an activation exploit to simulate the BIOS.

Please see what edition of Windows is listed on the COA sticker affixed to the computer.

In addition to what Colin has said Your install is using the blacklisted Lenovo key. This key was blacklisted before windows 7 was released and has never been sold.

  • Yes, it is Ultimate.  I read that in the report.  But you are missing the point of my question.  Why does an Asus copy of Windows 7 Ultimate supposedly preinstalled at the factory have a Dell SLIC table in the BIOS to activate it?

The answer probably is that the table is not in the BIOS but is in a file used to simulate a BIOS table and thereby fool Windows Activation Technoloy into thinking that the copy of Windows is legitimate when it isn't.  That is one common method hackers use to get around activation so that they can just copy Windows from another computer and use it for free.  It is also a method used by sloppy computer repairmen to do "quick fix" computer repairs.  Recent improvements to the Windows Activation Technology software is bringing these practices to light and invalidating illegitimate licenses.

If you recently had your computer to a repair shop to replace the hard drive or just upgrade the OS you need to contact the shop and demand that the OS installation be done right.  It is common for shops to remove COA stickers when they replace an OS.  If the shop uses a legitimate copy for the replacement the shop puts a new COA sticker in place of the old one.  The absence of a COA sticker on an ASUS computer is highly suspicious since all ASUS computers that I know of ship with Windows preinstalled.

If some friend of yours upgraded your copy of Home Premium (or Professional) by copying Windows from a pirate site on the internet then you need to restore the copy of Windows that shipped with your computer or purchase a full license copy of Windows 7 from a reliable source such as the Microsoft Store or Amazon Corp. (not the Amazon Marketplace).

The absence of the COA sticker makes me suspect a shop is responsible.

Regardless of who did it, your copy of Ultimate will never validate and you need to replace it.
